Stone Mountain - Activities and Attractions Highlights

SUMMIT SKYRIDE:

Stone Mountain's Top Attraction is The Summit Skyride. This high-speed Swiss cable car provides a stunning view of the Confederate Memorial Carving as it transports guests more than 825 feet above ground to the top of Stone Mountain. From the top, experience amazing views of the Atlanta skyline, the Appalachian Mountains and more up to 60 miles away.

SKY HIKE:

Trek through the treetops on one of the nation’s largest family adventure courses. No two hikes are the same! Your choices make each hike a new challenge while secured to the patented overhead safety system. Explore the quarter of a mile course with your kids. Master suspended wooden bridges. Leap from one wooden slat to another. Balance on a single rope high above the ground. Or climb to the top on vertical net bridges. You have control of your trek as you pick from a 12 ft. trail for beginners, a 24 ft. high trail for the somewhat courageous and the super challenge trail at nearly 40 ft. in the air (four stories high), for the true daredevil in you.

CROSS ROADS:

Visit the Crossroads area and transport yourself to an 1870s southern town bustling with activity in a manner most of us have only read about in history books. Interact with demonstration crafters steeped in the almost forgotten art of Glass Blowing, Candle Making, Candy Making and Blacksmithing. Visit with Stoney, our resident talking fountain.

ANTEBELLUM PLANTATION AND FARMYARD:

The Antebellum Plantation at Stone Mountain Park is a collection of original buildings from around the State of Georgia, built between 1783 and 1875. Each structure was moved from its original site and carefully restored to preserve its authenticity and historical value. This fascinating area also houses the most extensive collection of period furniture and decorations in the south, reflecting the diverse lifestyles of 18th and 19th century Georgia residents. Take a self-guided tour and enjoy the sights and smells of the working cookhouse and garden where demonstrators preserve the timeless culinary traditions of the south.

SCENIC RAILROAD:

Climb aboard our train with a full size locomotive from the 1940s with open-air cars that will take you on a lively five-mile excursion around the mountain. Marvel at beautiful views of Stone Mountain and the surrounding landscape. The train experience includes exciting tales of real life train adventures as told by conductor Fire Box Floyd. Train-themed music and well known sing-a-longs make the ride fun for all ages. The train can be boarded and de-boarded from Memorial Depot in Crossroads.

JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH - 4D MOVIE:

Your senses will be engaged through a 3D film and spectacular 4th dimension special effects in Journey to the Center of the Earth, starring Brendan Frasier. This exciting new film follows three adventurers as they are plunged in a strange new world beneath the Earth’s surface where they embark on an amazing voyage and find incredible beauty amidst grave danger.

GREAT LOCOMOTIVE CHASE ADVENTURE GOLF:

Putter around on a miniature golf course based on the real-life adventures of the Great Locomotive Chase. Taking on the perspective of the train’s original crew, you'll make your way through 18 holes in hot pursuit of the stolen General locomotive. From a spurting water tower to a jumble of broken tracks and a dark tunnel encounter with an oncoming train, it’s a crazily kinetic course filled with special effects and surprises. With train-inspired design elements that seamlessly blend with the architecture of Crossroads and the natural beauty of Stone Mountain the Great Locomotive Chase Adventure Golf hits a hole in one!

THE GREAT BARN:

It's harvest time in the barn! Atlanta's most exciting adventure for families and children (primarily ages 5-12), featuring super slides, trampoline floors, climbing structures and over 65 interactive games. Complete fun tasks to earn lots of points and earn a high score.

CAMP HIGHLAND OUTPOST:

Exciting outdoor challenges for the entire family including rock walls to climb, plus a low ropes course with three line bridges and zip lines. Camp Highland Outpost is designed and built in partnership with the staff of Camp Highland in Ellijay, GA.

MUSEUM AT MEMORIAL HALL:

Sacred ground, landmark, refuge, meeting place, home: Stone Mountain has been many things to many people. Discovering Stone Mountain Museum features artifacts and stories that span 12,000 years, from ancient civilizations that lived on the mountain to the present-day park. Learn about Native Americans and pioneer settlers. See how the community was affected by the Civil War and how Stone Mountain granite helped build the local economy. The Confederate Memorial on Stone Mountain is the largest relief carving in the world. Learn how it came to be through exhibits featuring original designs, scale models and the 11-minute feature film The Men Who Carved the Mountain. Stand beside full-scale replicas of some of the elements of the carving while enjoying a grand view of the memorial itself.

PADDLEWHEEL RIVERBOAT:

Cruise the tranquil waters of Stone Mountain Lake on the Scarlett O'Hara, an authentic side-wheeler that carries 150 passengers. The boat was built right here at the park in 1976. 20 minute cruises depart every 1/2 hour. The last cruise departs at closing.

LASER LIGHT SHOW:

The digitally remastered Lasershow Spectacular presents “Our Music Is Georgia Music,” highlighting the diversity of Georgia’s musical landscape during a special tribute to many of the artists featured in our Georgia Music Hall of Fame exhibit located at Memorial Hall Museum. With displays of laser lights, graphics, characters and fireworks, the Lasershow Spectacular is an Atlanta attraction that is not to be missed.
